Claudia Catarzi a choisi de restreindre son espace scénique à 40 000 cm2. Depuis ce tout petit espace où danser et se mouvoir, la danseuse concentre le geste, dans sa plus grande simplicité. Pleinement là, percutante, glissante, elle captive dans une esthétique sans personnage ni narration, d’où surgit la magnifique capacité du corps à s’adapter à son milieu.

Danseuse et chorégraphe, Claudia Catarzi débute sa carrière avec l’ensemble Micha Van Hoecke à Rome. Plus tard, elle danse pour des compagnies importantes dans le monde entier, telles que Constanza Macras de Dorky Park (Berlin), groupe En-Knap de Iztok Kovac (Ljubljana). Elle a également collaboré avec Sasha Waltz & Guests et avec la chorégraphe israélienne Yasmeen Godder. Elle a été l’invitée de la Batsheva Dance Company de Ohad Naharin et elle a participé au court métrage de Peter Greenaway Les Towers.

Ces riches expériences l’ont conduit à la création du solo Qui, ora en 2011, qui a reçu de nombreux prix et a été sélectionné pour les Aerowaves Forward du Festival Printemps. Son autre solo punto Sul a remporté le prix du jury et le prix du public au Romaeuropa / Festival de l’ADN 2013. En 2016, elle reçoit le soutien du projet européen Be SpecACTive! pour sa création Time.

The Italian choreographer and dancer Claudia Catarzi started her career working with Micha Van Hoecke’s Ensemble (artistic director of Mudra by Maurice Béjart). Later she danced with Constanza Macras - Dorky Park (Berlin - DE), Iztok Kovac’s En-knap Group (Ljubljana - SL), Compagnia Virgilio Sieni (Florence - IT), Cie Ambra Senatore (Firenze - IT) and Sasha Waltz & Guests (Berlin - DE). Her own works have been presented so far in major international dance festivals such as Roma Europa Festival (Rome - IT), Dublin Dance Festival (Dublin - IR) or the Rencontres chorégraphiques de Seine-Saint-Denis (Paris - FR). Catarzi also took part in a research project by the Israeli choreographer Yasmeen Godder and participated in Peter Greenaway’s short film "The Towers".

In her solo 40.000 square centimeters, Catarzi explores the possibilities of movement in a restricted space - a small, enclosed square, spot-lit in a corner of the stage. Positioned within it, she dances a powerful choreography that reminds us of the capacity of the human body to adapt to its surrounding. 40.000 square centimeters is a captivating and hypnotic choreography of greatest simplicity. A clear example of how this emerging Italian choreographer is carving out her own distinct language in dance.
